I’m used to calling my self a jack of all trades, master of none. Luckily, being one in the field of media and content creation is a gift.
In the digital age, content creation has become an essential component of our lives. The capacity to express oneself through numerous mediums such as writing, photography, videography, and graphic design has created endless opportunities and limitless possibilities. Reflecting on my own journey as a content creator, I can certainly state that it has been nothing short of revolutionary, allowing me to release my creativity and discover a passion I never thought I will grew to love.
Unlocking Potential: My foray into content creation began with a simple curiosity. During high school, there are a lot of activities requiring creative ideas such as poster making, video editing and more. I started joining various contests such as slogan making, took part in campus journalism as a feature writer, and eventually volunteering to edit the video on every group projects we’ve had. That’s when I found myself smiling while doing it. I’m happy while doing it.
Nurturing Creative Juices: When I discovered my love for content creation, I tried to focus on different aspects such as writing and graphic designing. I have won various awards in high school in the said field. That’s when I decided to focus my passion on graphic designing. I became a freelancer and independent creative. Summer 2020, I started doing commissions like event invitations, café and restaurant menu, as well as promotional materials for different small businesses. That was how I trained myself and honed my skills. I am also proud that I was able to buy the things I want from the money I earned from freelancing.
The Breaking Point: For sure, most content creator experience creative block. I’ve experienced the same thing but mine was different. I started becoming unhappy, exhausted, and mentally drained. I figured out it was because I was overworking. I work even at midnight. I have no time for other things because I buried myself with deadlines and I have no definite schedule dedicated for work. In short, I got tired. I took my rest and took my time to figure things out. I thought, maybe it would be better to apply at a company where there is a work schedule.
Loving the Passion, Earning its Rewards: During the first quarter of 2022, I started looking for full-time jobs online. A post from a Facebook group I’ve joined in came across my wall. They are looking for a junior graphic designer. Without hesitation, I passed my CV and portfolio. Fortunately, I got accepted and is currently having a good time now. I am happy that I got to enter an advertising agency whose clients are really, really big brands and companies in the Philippines. I am also glad that I have a very good work-life balance, while earning to save up for my future.
My journey as a content creator has been a transformative experience, igniting a flame of creativity that burns brighter with each passing day. Through content creation, I have discovered my voice, shared stories that matter, and connected different people with similar passion. If you’re someone who’s doubting yourself and is still hesitating to start your career as an independent creative, this is your sign to make the best out of it!
